In 2006, the Cigar Family Health Center was opened to deliver a wide array of services, including obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, laboratory testing, dentistry, vaccinations, pharmacy, minor surgeries and emergency services aided by an on-site ambulance and seven professionals. So far, some 85,000 people have benefited from its assistance. The Center, which serves an average of 713 people monthly, also provides courses and workshops about the growth and development of infants, reproductive health, hygiene, breast-feeding and preventable diseases.
In addition, as a disease prevention measure, clean water-dispensing stations have been installed in the communities and over 4,500 filters have been distributed to families for in-home use.
